So what are we doing about it?
4.4 million people have sickle-cell disease while an additional 43 million have sickle-cell trait.
About 80% of sickle-cell disease cases are believed to occur in sub-Saharan Africa
2% of newborns in Nigeria were affected by sickle cell anemia, giving a total of 150,000 affected children born every year in Nigeria alone.
Great Ife Alumni Organization is working on an effort to raise awareness of Sickle Cell Disease and raise funds for its cure. Will you please support us so that together we can improve the lives of thousands of people?
